red velvet ootd - 14 March

when i woke up this morning, there was a tiny tiny hint of seasonal change in the brisbane air.  barely enough to notice, but enough for me to slip into my velvet shorts for my saturday outings.
these shorts are from our collection we showed in NYC at Full Figure Fashion Week and i had not really done much talk about them at all.  i love them though and apart from being super comfy, they feel really quite luxurious.

as someone who has a creative streak, i am always thinking of new ways to style everything that i own as i think it's important to ensure that we wear our clothes over and over again.

now that i am getting the hang of taking my own photos, i am always on the lookout for spots that i can stop and snap (as opposed to bend and snap) to ensure i get something that may be kind of interesting, or enhances the look i may be wearing.

today, it was in the industrial area of moorooka, where i stopped as i headed out for an outing.  i grabbed the cape that goes with this outfit, as i figured, i should darn well show off how fantastic the combination is.
and with its floral lining and my floral top, i was pattern clashing away.
now, i don't usually flash too much flesh, but today all that changed.  i decided not to put a cammy under the top, but popped on a red bra and just went with it.  it actually felt pretty liberating until i was at the shopping centre and realised that there was a high chance of my boobs popping out, if i wasn't careful of how i hung my bag over my shoulder.  probably explains a lot of strange looks!

well, my verdict on this outfit was that it was great.  it was fun, a little naughty, colourful and could be worn to lots of places, with either boobs in, or boobs out.

what i wore
velvet  pants and cape from huuduverti
top and sequin belt made by me
earrings from odel in sri lanka
shoes - not sure where

aussie curves challenge - festival

my these challenges come around quick.

when i think of festival, i straight away think of music, but there are so many great cultural festivals to enjoy as well.  after all, i am 48 and the thought of being squashed in a mosh pit waiting to see one direction, with some teeny boppers isn't appealing.

saturday night saw us heading into west end for the annual rio rythmics brazilian carnival. it started at the boundary street markets, which is such a vibrant place on friday and saturday evenings, with great food and often free music, interspersed with buskers and performers of various kinds.  did i mention the food.  even me, the vegetarian, had plenty to choose from.

as soon, as i saw this event come up on facebook, i decided to go and knew exactly what i was going to wear and it was going to be gold and it was going to be razzle dazzle and it was going to be straight from the huudaverti runway.  the gold cross over jumpsuit.  how luxe is this?  the fabric came from a local brisbane fabric wholesaler and it was part of our collection in 2013, following our showing in Full Figured Fashion Week, in New York.
this jumpsuit for me has only had one other outing to a work function, but last saturday, it was festival worthy.
i even met elvis and gave him a run for his money in the fashion stakes. couldn't compete with the hair though...
and when the sun went down, the street was closed and in true west end style, the locals put on a show, with music, costumes, dancing, and parading, all while welcoming the onlookers into the mix to enjoy the fun.

i jumped at the chance to crash the parade and have my photo taken with these amazing people who were out doing what they love.

having been to rio, i really appreciate the festival that is carnivale (i've even been to where they hold it).  the brazilians have a passion for life (not to mention caipirinhas) and i felt chuffed to be part of the local event that they had prepared for, for so many months. and i think my festival outfit was right on point.

what i wore:
gold jumpsuit from huudaverti
shoes from midas
necklaces that i have had forEVA
lust for life that is what is known as janergy

fashion for all

on monday i trundled off to work in my new pants that i whipped up over the weekend.
actually, i didn't whip them up over the weekend, they were cut out in about june, with the intention of taking them to new york. they then went to fiji and stayed there till i made my way back in october this year for fashion week.  I had every intention of finishing them then as well....
then those same pants still stayed unfinished and in fiji until my mum came back a couple of weeks ago and i saw them in her stuff. i did manage to sew the side seams way back then and took the opportunity to spend the 10 minutes it would have taken me to finish them in june, to finally get them done on sunday.
These pants are shiny, hot pink satin goodness with elasticized hem and waist.
these pants felt so good that i thought i'd get dave to take a snap of me and my fineness.
as the day wore on, the pants copped quite a few compliments - from their shininess, to their i dream of jeannie magic, to their hot pinkness, so teamed with an old top from katies - thanks to the back of my wardrobe and my novo shoes, and necklace made from donated leftover beads from Beck Jobson at handmade life - they were just an all round winner. and yes for those who asked, we can see if we can get some of these into our clothing line.
Skip to Tuesday when i had all intention of going to the boxing gym in the arvo and realised as i went to get changed that i had forgotten my pants.  I had reached the point of changing that i was ready for those pants to go on, but alas, they were not in my bag. so that left me with no option but to redress and wait a fair while for dave to be available to pick me up, or to chance the bus.  And chance the bus it did.  that bus was full of so many sad sacks that the energy was just drab and within one stop more that all changed.  this guy got on. he had everyone staring and wondering.  I stared and wondered as well - i wondered who the hell this awesome guy was.  i don't think the picture does him justice, but he certainly didn't take coco chanel's advice to take a quick look in the mirror and take off the first thing you see before you leave the house.  maybe he did, but if he did it didn't make any difference. he could NOT have had any more accessories. is that a thing for men, do they accessorize??  he was even offered a seat, but i think the tightness of those pants didn't allow for this travel luxury.
all i can say is thank goodness i left those pants at home, or i would have missed this.

not a day goes by

here i am on the eve of my 47th birthday.  I haven't written a post in over 2 months and that hurts my soul but I just don't have the time.  but not a day goes by when i don't just want to sit and start typing something ridiculous.

I am going to reflect though - not only on the last year, but on my photo a day.

I looked in the mirror today and once again, i didn't feel like i am any different to last year or the year before.  However, the biggest thing i have noticed is that my eyesight is still so f'ing B A D. I always remember my nana saying that one day it will happen to you and nana knew best.....it has happened - so place exsoose any spilling misteaks.

Nearly a year ago, my sister Christine suggested we do a fashion show in Fiji - which we did.
Earlier this year, we got an opportunity to go to New York and show a collection - which we did.
In about 2 weeks, we will be back in Fiji doing another collection.

And in between all that, i have tried to focus on my day job while pining to do more with my fashion night job.  I liken the fashion world we are in to having something really fantastic to eat and then wanting to keep eating it, but it just isn't that easy to do, so in the meantime my sisters have been keeping the ball bouncing while we work to making this a full time thing.  So this digress into something that we are so passionate about is difficult for me cause i just can't commit the time i would like and that time keeps me from doing my blog!

But i can keep working behind the scenes to do what i can to make huudaverti awesome.

but in the meantime, let's look back to me in 2011 and 2012

and now on the eve of 47, doing the best look around - the duck lips.  quack! and i am making it extra large so you get the full effect.
